What is Career Day all about?

Each year, our school invites community leaders from various job professions to come out and talk with you.  This is intended to give you an opportunity to find out the inter-workings of a particular career from a person who is living it.  We are visited each year by doctors, lawyers, business owners, mechanics, and many more.

The eighth grade class is broken up into two groups, depending on your social studies teachers.  While your group will be given an chance to meet with three different professionals that coincide with your areas of interest and the results of your career placement exam, the other group will  meet with careers that involve trade or vocational training.  You will then trade places, giving you an opportunity to meet with  people who have gone straight into the workforce by seizing an opportunity to train for a prospective job while in high school.

This year's topic is:  What do I want to be when I grow up and, what do I have to do to make that dream a success?

Sample Questions

Sometimes we have an opportunity to meet with someone we admire and forget our questions or maybe we forget good manners.  Here are a few questions to help you get started thinking of great questions to ask.

1.  What is the starting salary for your job?

2.  What type of training is needed for someone who is interested in your job field?

3.  What are some common problems you deal with?

4.  What do you love about your job?

Do you know someone who would, in the future, like to participate in Career Day?

Just let your advisory teacher know and give a name and number where this person can be reached.

Professional Dress

Don't forget to dress like a professional for Career Day.  Please no jeans or tennis shoes.  Remember you are not only a representative for this school, you send a message about yourself by the way you dress.
